Seriously Chic Jericoacoara is as cool as its name

Ice cool chic in the desert dunes and beautiful beaches of Northern Eastern Brazil lies Jericoacoara. This delicious small town hang out for the ultra cool; and those with an A list  “shabby chic” address book, requires a thrilling three hour four wheel drive journey across rain filled dunes and desert from Fortaleza airport.

As most of Europe is well within the clasps of EasyJet , Ryan Air and a host of low cost operators, the seriously cool places have literally ceased to be ‘seriously cool’. Just as in the sixties days when Mykonos or Ibiza was considered pioneering, such pioneers are really having to ‘scratch their heads’ and ‘test their wallets’ to find new places to have discreet, simple but exclusive fun. Jericoacoara is one of those places. One wealthy Parisian who purchased a villa there even said that he had “fled” from the humdrum now surrounding him in St Barts. That is quite a compliment!

Jericoacoara is essentially boutique! Every hotel, villa or even tent on the beach is boutique. There are no chains. It is a surfer kite town in that order.  Endless stretches of Equatorial Atlantic coastline.  Constant surf.  Refreshing winds. Guitars on the beach. Barefoot luxury bubbling under ones feet oozes an essential  escapist charm. It is the guilty Brazilian secret of some of the top Francophone address books in Europe.

Expect cool, honed elegant bodies to adorn the hammocks smoking on cheroots and of course, like all up and coming places, it is faintly metrosexual. It is certainly not a destination for the bingo winged.

Effortless kiters and bankers on boards - Yes. All inclusive sludge- No. Here you make your own salads, adding local oils and ingredients. There is no common denominator.

The real estate options for investors are genuinely exclusive as the place is so deliciously remote but also strictly controlled.  Low rise. Boutique Villas. Beach atmospheric. Plunge pools not swimming pools.  It is genuinely hard to find options as permits are seriously difficult to come by.

However, as the Brazilian real currency has taken a hammering, they are surprisingly good value for money.  Aldeia Villas is a collection of 12 fabulous individually designed villas with 3 or 4 bedroom options with plunge pools from £480,000.  A lot you might think for a Brazilian beach outback but given that there is only one way this delightful town is going, worth every penny.
