Cape Verde Property

Cape Verde has had an interesting history, predominantly owing to its location off the coast of West Africa. Discovered by the Portugese in the 15th Century, Cape Verde became a slave trading hub during the following two centuries growing prosperous. The economy of Cape Verde today is service-oriented, with commerce, transport, and public services accounting for more than 70% of GDP. Although nearly 35% of the population lives in rural areas, agriculture and fishing contribute only about 9% of GDP. Light manufacturing accounts for most of the remainder. In 2011, on four islands a wind farm was built that supplies about 30% of the electricity of the country. It is one of the top countries for renewable energy.

Cape Verde has not traditionally focused on tourism as a primary part of its economy. However, it is a significantly growing sector with over 716,000 tourists in 2017 an increase of over 11% year on year. Most of these tourists come from the UK followed by Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
