Brazilians Buying Abroad

Brazilians Buying Abroad

Now more than ever, the Brazilian Upper and Middle Classes are looking for a safe real estate investment in the big European capitals. Many of the continent’s great cities represent the perfect balance between a city holiday home and healthy yield.

After the hefty tolls the Economic Crisis of 2015 had on Brazil, many nationals started looking elsewhere to invest. Seeing as the country’s rich have always placed value in real estate investment, a trend of Brazilian buyers in Europe has really caught on.

These investors are seeking more than just a healthy yield and return on their investment. They are looking for a sense of belonging elsewhere. A developed home, away from home. Unsurprisingly, the main city sought out by rich Brazilians is Lisbon. The motherland. A city that speaks their language and has fantastic choices for restaurants, culture and investment. An evening stroll over Baixa’s cobblestone reminds them, not only of home, but also of where Brazil’s enriched culture stems from. It is to them, where it all began. Where Pedro Alvares Cabral’s fleet departed from on 9 March 1500 at noon, before arriving in Brazil a month and a half later and started exploring the country’s vast territory.

It seems as if now the roles have reversed and it is Brazil’s turn to discover Portugal. From January to August 2019, Brazilians invested around 122 million euros in Portugal seeking the Golden Visa. That is 41% more than in the same period in the previous year! This year alone 164 Brazilians have already acquired their Golden Visa, making them the second nationality in Portugal’s Golden Visa rankings. With Lisbon property prices increasing 40% since 2015 it hardly makes for a bad investment!

As Chinese (1st) and Turk (3rd) investment in the country seems to slow, Brazilian investment shows no sign of stagnating. The two countries will always share a close bond. But it now seems as if they’re closer than ever.
