Ruling the Channel, just 8km from France, lies the stunning Channel Island of Alderney. The atmosphere of France lying on a delicious Island slice of Britain. It is 3 miles by 2 miles and has 2000 friendly forward thinking residents. The main centre is a Normandy crafted 17th Century cobbled street Town, St Anne.

Alderney has its own government - think toy town. It has its own railway - think Thomas the Tank Engine. The island is low on taxation and aims high on relaxation. It can be vibrant and buzzy yet uniquely tranquil and breathtakingly beautiful.

The island is exceptionally cosmopolitan with its own peculiar charm. There are wonderful boutique hotels and luxury guest houses. Alderney also has 10 excellent restaurants, 10 Bars and Inns and endless original, fun and characterful shops.

The island has a vibrant community with four big festivals a year. Experience Alderney Week, Alderney Performing Arts, Literary Week and Angling Festival Alderney Week each August. This period each year is in the Guinness Book of Records for being the festival with the most events in one week.

Alderney has an active sailing, golfing and tennis fraternity which are all open for visitors to join in and enjoy.

The island has an excellent micro infrastructure with shops, libraries, museums, banks, three Churches, hospital and Doctor services. A harbour area with full time marine services and a thriving yacht club is situated at the north of the island.

History & Culture

Alderney has recently become a centre of exceptional interest for Archaeologists. The discovery of the oldest Roman Fortress ruins in Great Britain has added to the islands historical importance. Energetic cultural societies with Arts, Cinema, Drama, History, Heritage and Literature are enthusiastically embraced by both locals and visitors.

Wildlife & Nature

Alderney is also listed as the number one “Twitcher Destination” for ornithologists. It has one of the most varied range of bird species in the UK. One of largest Gannet colonies closest to human civilization in the world can be found on the island. The sister island of Burhou is also the most important Puffin breeding ground in the UK .

Getting There

There is a local airport with scheduled services from Southampton and Guernsey on the Channel Island airline, Aurigny.
